Operating System Requirements

You must be running one of the following operating systems. All operating systems must have the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installed.

  1. Windows Vista (all editions)

  2. Windows 7 (all editions)

  3. Windows 8 (all non-RT RTM editions)

  4. Windows 8.1 (all non-RT editions; RTM recommended)

  5. Windows Server 2008 R2 (all RTM editions)

  6. Windows Server 2012 (all RTM editions)

  7. Windows Server 2012 R2 (RTM recommended)

 

Please note that at this time Windows 8 RT and Windows 8.1 RT are not supported.

 

Older operating systems such as Windows XP are not supported; however these systems have been tested and will work. You must use a 32 bit installation of Windows XP or Windows server 2003.  If you wish to use Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 as a client operating system, you must meet the following additional requirements:

  1. Have all released updates applied.

  2. Have Microsoft CredSSP enabled. Please see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954357 for information on how to enable CredSSP.

  3. Have RDP 7.0 installed. Please see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969084 for information on how to install RDP.  RDP 7.0 is not supported by 64 bit versions of Windows XP or Windows Server 2003.

Browser Requirements

holLaunchPad Online is deployed using ClickOnce technology. Any browser supporting ClickOnce is supported. The following browsers have been tested:

  1. Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0+ and later

  2. Google Chrome 10+ with Chrome ClickOnce assistant (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/eeifaoomkminpbeebjdmdojbhmagnncl)

Screen Resolution

The minimum screen resolution supported is 1280x800.
If you are using a smaller resolution, before you launch the lab:

  1. Right-click your taskbar.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Ensure Lock the taskbar is not checked.
  4. If you want to auto-hide the taskbar rather than move it to the side of the screen, select the Auto-hide the taskbar check box.
  5. Set the taskbar location on the screen to Right.
  6. Click OK.
  7. The taskbar inside the virtual machine will be partially hidden but you will be able to interact with it.


You should ensure that your DPI setting is set to 100%. To do this:

  1. Right-click your desktop, and then click Display.
  2. On the Display menu, click Smaller - 100% and then click Apply

Permissions

holLaunchPad Online will configure CredSSP settings required for connectivity to Hyper-V virtual machines. This requires one of the following:

  1. Administrator permissions on your computer. holLaunchPad Online will present a User Account Control dialog box before making registry changes.

  2. Your administrator to manually add the required registry keys and values. Please see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954357 for information on what keys and values to add. (Note that the Fix It tool on that page only works on certain operating systems; use the information in the KB to manually add the appropriate values.)

Firewall Requirements

To connect to running virtual machines, you may be required to meet the following requirements.

  1. The ability to access http://online.holsystems.com.

  2. Some sessions require access to ports 21001 through 21100.

  3. Some organizations require you have a firewall client installed and configured.

Requirements may vary from company to company and from session to session. Please check with your system administrator on this requirement.

Test Connectivity

To test your ability to connect to an environment hosted on holSystems, please perform the following steps:

Verify you can communicate with holSystems using the required ports
To verify you have access to the required ports, please follow these steps:

  1. Download the Port Query tool from the Microsoft download center: http://download.microsoft.com/download/3/f/4/3f4c6a54-65f0-4164-bdec-a3411ba24d3a/PortQryUI.exe

  2. Launch PortQueryUI.exe.

  3. In Enter the destination IP or FQDN to query, type tampa1.holsystems.com.

  4. In Ports to query, type 21001-21100, and then click Query. The query will take approximately 1 minute.

  5. Verify you receive the following output (sample provided):

TCP port 21001 (unknown service): LISTENING

TCP port 21002 (unknown service): LISTENING

To verify you can resolve and connect to online.holsystems.com, click the following links:

Test Lab Launch

To verify you can access a hosted environment, please click here to launch a lab.

If you are able to connect to the test environment, you will see a window containing a sample virtual machine. Click Discard Current Session, click Yes, complete the evaluation, and then click Submit Evaluation.
